After much feedback from users I’ve decided to add geotagging functionality to the next version of BlueGPS. This will allow you to click “Tag This Location” on your device and add a note (even a photo in a future version) and upload it to a server. Users will be able to share their favorite locations with the community or with just friends and family. I’ll be working on a basic server piece built on top of Ruby on Rails. I’ll continue to post updates both from a technical as well as conceptual perspective.
This isn’t an entirely new concept as there a few “Web 2.0″ companies getting into the social location sharing space. The ones I’m most familiar with are socialight and flagr. This isn’t an attempt to compete with these startups, but create something defined by BlueGPS users and see where we end up. It should make for an interesting experiment to say the least. The value I get out of this entire experiment is working with the community to craft something that can be used by technology enthusiasts….and push the limits of our imaginations!
You guys should tap into the Flagr API to create flags from your application. See: http://flagr.com/help/api
