Tivo World Cup Woes

Jul 01

Tivo has been one of the greatest entertainment investments in our household. Until yesterday our Tivo had been working flawlessly. I generally don’t record sporting events, but with all the World Cup action I’ve been recording a lot of the games. I was severely disappointed yesterday (and today) when my Tivo missed two great overtime games.

My Tivo actually recorded both games (Argentina vs. Germany and England vs. Portugal), but didn’t pick up the overtime halves as well as the shootouts. Apparently Tivo doesn’t have a way to detect any program that extends beyond its scheduled time. I would have been SEVERELY disappointed if I was unable to catch either shootout. Luckily I caught Argentina vs. Germany yesterday during lunch and camped out today to catch the England vs. Portugal game.

I don’t normally Tivo sporting events so I’m sure this problem exists with any game that extends beyond its scheduled time. Tivo, or any other DVR manufacturer for that matter has until the 2010 World Cup to get this figured out. I’ll definitely have this on my list when considering a DVR upgrade. Doing a quick search I see that Tivo has this in their requested feature list under the “Automatic padding” option. This definitely has my vote.
