I’ve been using MovableType for almost two years now and decided to finally make the switch to WordPress. The installation process took less than 10 minutes and I spent most of my time tweaking the look/feel. While I haven’t stretched much beyond the default theme, I’m planning on update this in the coming weeks.
I’m highly impressed with WP’s use of stylesheets and the extensive admin functionality. Given I was using and old free version of MT (V2.661) I feel that this is the right decision. WP appears to have better support for customization and a plethora of plugins, options, and 3rd party themes.
I was able to easily export my MT content and import into WP without any hiccups. The biggest hassles will be maintaining the content that’s already indexed in Google as well as managing my Feedburner feeds. I’ll continously update this in the coming weeks as well. I’m excited about the transition and kudos to the WP team for great open-source software.
